Catherine West, JD
WA Medical-Legal Partnership
Catherine West is a staff attorney with the Medical-Legal Partnership. She has spent the last twenty years working with low-income, vulnerable and marginalized populations. She has a BA in Psychology and has worked in state mental hospitals, a children’s psychiatric unit, and three long term care facilities.
She attended law school at the University of Wisconsin, where she received an award for academic achievement and an award for character, leadership and service. She was also awarded an Equal Justice Works fellowship for her work with low-income laborers and tenants. In 2004, the Wisconsin Women’s Law Journal published her article advocating for the inclusion of LGBTQ families as decision-makers in the surrogate health care decision-making statute.
Catherine has represented indigent clients at the Northwest Justice Project for eleven years. She defended homeowners in mortgage, property tax and homeowner association foreclosure. She represented seniors in consumer, housing and public benefits issues, and has represented victims of domestic violence with family law issues. In 2015, she received Northwest Justice Project’s Advocacy Award.
Catherine grew up in an Italian-American neighborhood in Western New York State. In the fourth grade, she was the Badminton champion of her elementary school. She has four nieces and two nephews.
